A few years ago I got on Craigslist and bought me this here KLR650 from a corn farmer down in Yakima WA. I changed the tires and oil and bribed some sweet old biddies at a thrift shop to sell me one of their plastic yarn baskets for $20 which I then zip tied onto the luggage rack and took off!
Other than going east and going south the route was improvised day by day, mile by mile, for 16 days and 5,000+ miles. I bathed in watering holes and rivers when they came along and slept on the ground next to the dirty pig each night using my boots as a pillow.
After the trip I went back and traced my route into Google Maps and used the coordinates to build this interactive scroll-driven memory.
